Booster Mission Statement

The Ponderosa Band Boosters is an organization of parents with students who are current or former participants in the Band programs at Ponderosa High School. These programs include Color Guard, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Winter Guard, and Winter Percussion.

The primary purpose of the Band Boosters is to help provide financial, logistical, and moral support in a balanced fashion for all of these programs and the students who are participating in them.

The Director of Bands is responsible for the direction and leadership of all of the band programs at Ponderosa High School.

The Band Booster organization is led by the President and the Board of Directors, who work with the Director of Bands to help make the band programs successful.

The PHS band programs are minimally funded by the Douglas County School District and so require the additional financial support provided by the Ponderosa Band Booster Organization.

A note from the booster president

Ponderosa Band Booster Meetings
Every band parent is a booster parent! Please attend the booster meetings. These meetings offer you the chance to voice your opinion, talk with the band director, get to know the board members, share ideas and make new friends. The success of the band program is 100% dependent on the ideas and support of parents. If you have any questions, please contact any board member listed on the front of the newsletter.

Booster meetings are the 2nd Thursday of every month at 7PM (location for fall 2008 meetings TBD).

Bring us your trash...
Okay, not all of your trash, just your newspapers and magazines. In the bus loop near the band room you will see two big blue recycling dumpsters. Believe it or not, this is a fundraiser! The band has been earning about $100 per month from the recycling. Just imagine how much we could earn if everyone dropped off their newspapers and magazines! Next time you are going to drop off your student for practice or if they are driving themselves in, load the car up with all of your newspapers and magazines!

FUNDit
To minimize out-of-pocket expenses, the Band Boosters have set up the FUNDit program to directly benefit your student’s Individual Student Account (IPA).

How does it work? FUNDit is similar to the Grocery Certificate program where you can purchase various merchant certificates, and a percentage of that purchase will be applied to your student’s IPA. This is money that we are all currently spending in our daily lives. For example, we rent movies from Blockbuster; we order from Pizza Hut; we eat dinner out at Chili’s; we buy clothes at The Gap and CDs and books from Borders. Yes it requires thinking a week or two ahead, but it is more than worth it. Below is a very conservative example. If during an average month a family…

Ordered Pizza Hut once ($20.00)
Rented $10 worth of movies from Blockbuster
Ate once at Chili’s ($20.00)
Bought a pair of shoes for $20.00 from Payless
And bought a gift certificate for mom from Bath & Body Works ($20.00)
The IPA would be credited $9.90 x 12 months totaling $118.80 for the year. Of course the more you use FUNDit the more you profit.

FUNDit orders are sent every Wednesday. Turnaround time is approximately one week. Until the order form is on the DOWNLOADS page of this website, simply specify the following:

1. Your name
2. Your student’s name
3. Your phone or email address
4. Quantity
5. Vendor
6. Denomination (e.g. $5, $10, $25, $50, …) It varies by vendor so check out the PHS Fundit Vendor List on the DOWNLOADS page.
7. Subtotal by vendor
8. Total amount ordered

The FUNDit coordinator will call to make delivery arrangements when your order is ready.

King Soopers & Safeway Grocery Certificates

PAY FOR MARCHING BAND BY BUYING GAS & GROCERIES!

Gift certificates redeemable at King Soopers and Safeway are available for purchase at the end of marching band practice Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays beginning in August .

King Soopers and Safeway donate 4% of your purchase to your band student’s account. For example, if you buy $100 of gift certificates, King Soopers & Safeway donate $4 to your band student’s account. Certificates are available in $25 increments. King Soopers’ certificates are also accepted at Safeway & Albertson’s. These certificates are also available for purchase at First United Bank in Parker (you must use cash if you do not have a personal checking account at this bank) or from the bookkeeper, Marlane, at PHS. Marlane’s hours are 7-3 during school hours with lunch from 12-1. I would advise calling her at 303-387-4101 to check availability. When you purchase certificates at the bank or from the PHS bookkeeper, you will fill out a form designating your student’s name and activity to be credited (BAND) at the bottom.

PLEASE MAKE CHECKS PAYABLE TO:

PONDEROSA PARENT SUPPORT FUND OR PPSF

The Ponderosa Parent Support Fund is a non-profit organization of PHS administrators, teachers, and parents which administers this fund-raising opportunity with the generous support of First United Bank. The PPSF is a separate entity from Ponderosa Band Boosters which administers a gift certificate program called Fundit.

For questions or to purchase certificates, please call Barb Westerdale, (303) 841-5053.

STUDENT STATEMENTS
Please pay your participation fees. 2008 Marching Band fees are $700. This is in addition to the fees paid to the school for registration. It is extremely important that every student pay their share of participating in the program so that others will not have to pay for them. The Band program receives very little funding from the School District. In order for Ponderosa to maintain a Marching Band, Color Guard, Winter Percussion and Winter Guard, the Band program relies upon fundraisers and payment of the participation fees.
